During their first year of medical school, students work with doctors at community health centers such as the Friend Family Health Center, Chicago Family Health Center and ACCESS as part of the as part of the Longitudinal Program, a component of the Patient, Physician, Society, and Systems thread in the Pritzker curriculum.  During their clinical years, students rotate through community health centers and community hospitals, such as La Rabida Children’s Hospital and Mercy Hospital and Medical Center, to learn about family medicine, pediatrics, and internal medicine.  Medical students are often among the first people that patients see; they take patient histories and help to coordinate patient care.
